↵The beginning is the same as "To the volcano Teide, (option "a")", immediately after viewing the most notable places in the Teide caldera, we turn to the right. The whole area resembles a Martian landscape. We drive to El Portillo, where the road forks in two directions. We choose to the right.

We are going right along the mountain tops in the northeast of the island. We will drive through majestic Canarian pine forests. Then the eucalyptus grove begins.  Here we make a short stop and walk through the grove.

We continue our journey to La Laguna - the most beautiful and largest old town on the island, 700 m above sea level.  We will take a short walk around the old town (if there is a desire to stay - at least 1 hour there and back, about 5 km). If we don't go through the town, on the way back we will enter Candelaria - an ancient town with the largest basilica in the Canary Islands.

Through the town of Las Mercedes we go to the mountains of Anaga and reach the famous mirador Cruz del Carmen, around which, on all sides, the relict forest of laurel and heather trees grows. Laurel and heather trees here reach a height of up to 5 m. Let's take a short walk through this prehistoric forest. Why prehistoric? The last Ice Age, which covered all of Europe 12,000 years ago with a kilometer-thick layer of ice and reached Africa, did not reach the Canary Islands. Therefore, the forest has been preserved here, as it was in Europe before the Ice Age. Here we can taste the food we brought with us, or eat in a mountain tavern.

We go ahead and drive down the mountain serpentine to Taganan (a white town with red tiled roofs), and to the most beautiful wild wild beach in Tenerife - Playa Benijo.  If weather permits, we climb down the 200 m stairs to the beach. Here we can have a bit of sightseeing and swim or have lunch.

Then we go back over the mountains to San Andres, and turn to Santa Cruz, and take the Southern highway home.
